The last encore: The Sun Ain't Gonna Shine Anymore
The 12th and last song in the digital Mist:Period series is a Walker Brothers original: The Sun ain't gonna shine anymore. At gigs we sometimes play this oldie as a last encore, in order to send the audience home feeling all lovin' and peaceful and stuff...
Although with the release of the last song our great internet adventure Mist:Period has come to an end, Mist will come back to you within a few months. We will keep you posted!!!

For now: enjoy The Sun ain't gonna Shine Anymore and the previous track Grand and Humble HERE.

Grand and Humble
It's been quite an eventful year, and finally and ever so slowly we're nearing the end of Mist:Period. HERE is the 11th song: Grand and Humble. It's a song about... well, we don't really know what the song is about, to be honest - we will ask Rick when he returns from ("Oooh") Vienna. Another confession: the current mp3  is officially a pre-master - an advanced type of demo, sort of - so it may sound a tiny bit thin here and there. Later we will replace the file with the official master, once that is finished. The 12th song is on its way as well, it is due in a few days - we will keep you posted... Enjoy Grand and Humble for now!

1967-1988-2007
Born in the Summer of Love is the 10th track of Mist's internet-album Mist:Period.
What's it about? Flourishing house music in Amsterdam in 1988? Are there any similarities to Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band?
Listen and download HERE to figure it out.

Having entered the last stages of this challenging 12-song-'album in the air', it became clear to Mist that it was in need of a romantic ballad.  This home-baked new Mist-anthem contains a fine vocal guest appearance by Marijn Wijnands from the band Ma Rain. Mastering and final mixing was done by Martijn Groeneveld, our healthy man from Mailmen.

Red Car gassed up
For those of you who wondered if our Red Car had run out of gas: the answer is no!
The electric version of the song that we presented last week, during a crazy
seven-cities-in-one-day tour in The Netherlands, symbolizes the diversity of  Mist:Period. Whereas February's song Going On was a nostalgic trip, Red Car will carry you back no further than, say, Queens of the Stoneage. Oh well, as long as it's good, anything goes...
Until the end of April, you can download this 7th Mist:period-track free of charge by clciking HERE.

If you want to join these exclusive gigs for free, please send an e-mail to .
This one-day-tour announces the 7th Mist:Period-track named Red Car.

R.I.P. Lex  van Rossen
Last Saturday, our friend and photographer Lex van Rossen died of cancer at the age of 57. On www.lexxx.com, you can see a slide show of his work (from Bowie to Blondie). Here are some Mist-pictures by his magic hands and eyes.

Going On (strings attached!)
It has been a close call again, but the sixth Mist:Period-song is now ready and available. Click HERE to download it for free.

Although Going On - a song about love retirement - sounds like it could have been recorded in the 1960s, it could not have been recorded without some state-of-the-art computer software and high speed Internet access. Modern rock stars as we are, last month we've been juggling around with complete symphonic orchestras - on USB-sticks, that is.
Going On will be presented on Radio Noord-Holland tomorrow (tune in at Bijlage, between 12.00 a.m. and 1 p.m).

PS: Due to huge download success, Surrender, the song from January wil be kept available for free download a little while longer.

The 5th of Mist

Surrender, the 5th song in the series Mist:Period, is now ready.
You can download the song - free of charge - by clicking HERE.

One of the nice things about this project is that it requires quick thinking and impulsive decision-making, as a result of which sudden brain waves, moodswings, accidents and even weather conditions significantly influence the end result. Whereas the products of November and December turned out to be intimate electronic pop songs, this one is a genuine stadium rocker...

PS: Surrender is a song about finally surrendering oneself to real love before it is too late....will be caught by radio airwaves tonight for the first time on www.laserradio.nl  between 8 and 11 p.m

Special thanks to Martijn Groeneveld  (Mailmen) for quick and solid mixing, thanks to designer Suloca for working faster than the speed of light (if you hadn't noticed: this website has turned into green...).

Song no. 5 and post-Spain
The 5th Mist:Period-song Surrender is on its way. Release date: 30 January. To kill time, you can read Rick's recent Spanish tour adventures in Dutch musiczine musicfrom.nl. Oh, and a happy 2007 to all of you!

11 December 2006
Ho, ho, ho, Christmas on the way.
As from today, Christmas Day, the fourth song in the series Mist:Period will be freely downloadable from our website.Christmas Day is melancholic electronic singer-songwriter stuff, bringing back memories of Christmas dance-parties you didn't belong at. Depressing? Sure, but what else can you expect these days...

A remastered version of September's track Healthy Man is made available here too, by the way. We weren't entirely satisfied with the previous mix/mastering, so there you have it.

Narrow escape
Escape Lane, the third song in the series Mist:Period, is ready. You can download it free of charge by clicking here. A narrow escape it sure was: we finished the song only yesterday! Escape Lane is basically a home recording (including some nice computer bleeps and blurps), inspired by a long traffic jam on a rainy October morning on the highway A1. Mist dedicates the track to all of you who suffer daily in Dutch traffic congestion - detail: the song was born when Rick was humming along to the rhythm of the turn indicator...Check also the Mist:Period press section (new articles, reviews and radio stuff).

Monday to Sunday: out to launch

Song no. 2: Subliminal
The second song in the download series Mist:Period is called Subliminal. It is now downloadable on this site. The new Mist-song has been recorded at Mist's own studio and at home in Amsterdam, except for the drums, which were recorded at The Green Motel Studio in Utrecht. Mixing and mastering of the song was done at the great Studio Hilversum.nl. Mist would like to thank everybody for collaborating. Special thanks to singer Lydia van Maurik-Wever, who sings like a nightingale again. And also very special thanks to our producer Martijn Groeneveld for helping us out under sometimes difficult circumstances. Enjoy this song.

Stay on the road: Mist in European livings
At the moment, Rick is doing some acoustic solo shows with his project Live in the Living. Last week, two living rooms in Saarbrücken and Leipzig turned into intimate German venues. Some brand new Mist-songs were played: Subliminal and Stay on the Road. In two weeks, Rick will do the same in Spain. it is not sure yet if these concerts in Barcelona and Madrid will take place in a living, in a garden or on a roof..... Check www.liveintheliving.nl for more info on these shows.

28 April 2006

The meaning of Mist
In German, The word Mist means something like "rubbish", "nonsense", "shit"  or "bullocks". Scheisse!  Notwithstanding this somewhat misleading fact, most of the reviews on Bye Bye in Germany appear to be not "mist" at all...  Read some of these not so shitty reviews here.
To celebrate the actual German release of the album, Rick is doing a solo show in Berlin this Sunday at  a Live in the Living-show in Prenzlauer Berg. The whole 5-piece-band will play the Pop Up Festival in Leipzig on 20 May.  Auf Wiedersehn.

Airplay crash
For the first time in its history, the broadcast of the radio programme VPRO 3voor12 was interrupted due to a technical problem. During at least 8 minutes, the Dutch listeners were deprived from sound. The unfortunate thing about this is that it happened just while Mist was playing its live show on the very same programme..... VPRO will 're-broadcast' part of the lost  tracks now on coming Wednesday, 18 May, in the same programme, between 10.00 p.m. and 01.00 a.m. On their website www.3voor12.nl, you can hear part of the Mist-show. Tracks played: How to Drain the Swamp, Hips of the Year, Relapse in Time, Only for a Moment and Name.

Welcome to the brand new website of MIST.  A lot of things will happen between today and tomorrow. First things first: this website has been constructed by Constantijn (www.1site1.nl) and the design idea was brought to us by our own Jeroen. Have a walk, take a look. And write down 26 May in your agenda to start with (see gigs).
